The following are common slang words that are used on a daily basis by locals:
Sawubona: Hello!
Lekker: nice, good
Braai: barbecue
China: friend, mate
Now now: in the immediate future
Just now: in a little while
Eish!: an interjection indicating resignation
Haw!: expression of disbelief
laduma!: a popular cheer at soccer matches, "he scores!"
yebo: yes
robot: traffic lights
biltong: dried meat, similar to jerky
jol: to have fun, to party, can also refer to a disco or party
babbelas: hangover
